Mission
What you will drive
GCHA is the world’s leading alliance of health organisations dedicated to accelerating climate action. With 250+ members across 125+ countries, formal engagement in UNFCCC processes, and a growing portfolio of high-profile campaigns, we occupy a unique and influential position at the intersection of global health and climate advocacy. We are hiring our first dedicated Head of Development to partner with our Executive Director in delivering an ambitious five-year growth plan: tripling our annual budget from USD 1.4 million to USD 5+ million by 2030. This is a rare opportunity to build a development function from scratch within an organisation that has the mission, the moment, and the network to scale significantly. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR An experienced international NGO fundraiser with: 7+ years of fundraising experience with a track record of securing grants of USD 250K+ from major foundations or institutional donors Existing, active relationships with programme officers at climate and/or health foundations — particularly UK- and Europe-based Full-cycle portfolio management: from prospect research through compliance and reporting Strong written English and the ability to produce compelling, tailored proposals with minimal editorial support Experience building funder relationships from scratch, not only maintaining inherited ones The organisational instincts of a ‘builder’: able to create structure and make sound decisions with limited support Deep commitment to GCHA’s mission and ethical fundraising boundaries WHAT YOU WILL DO Own and grow a multi-million-dollar grants pipeline across foundations, bilateral donors, and multilateral institutions Cultivate and steward relationships with major climate and global health funders, bringing existing relationships from day one Lead development of high-quality proposals, concept notes, and funder reports across all programme areas Build the fundraising infrastructure GCHA needs to scale: grants tracking, impact narratives, and core funding prospectuses Support revenue diversification into major individual donors, and, potentially, government grants Work as a genuine strategic partner to the ED — shaping fundraising strategy, not just executing it KEY FUNDER RELATIONSHIPS VALUED We are particularly interested in candidates with existing relationships at: Clean Air Fund, Wellcome Trust, KR Foundation, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Oak Foundation European Climate Foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Rockefeller Foundation, Grantham Foundation Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation, Hewlett Foundation, Andes Amazon Fund, Ikea Foundation THE CONTEXT This is GCHA’s first dedicated fundraising hire. Most major grants are due for renewal in 2026, making immediate priorities clear and stakes high. The right candidate will be energised by building systems, relationships, and a pipeline where little currently exists, and by the challenge of navigating a sophisticated funder landscape at a pivotal moment for climate and health advocacy. DETAILS Location- Fully remote; non-US candidates strongly encouraged Travel- 3–5 international trips/year (COP, WHA, funder meetings) Reports to- Executive Director Start- As soon as possible Please share with promising candidates.
