How to Apply for Global Graphic Design & Multimedia Internship

at Sistema.bio

🏢 About Sistema.bio

Sistema.bio is a pioneering social enterprise that transforms agricultural waste into renewable energy and organic fertilizer, directly combating climate change while empowering rural farmers. Working here means contributing to a mission-driven team that scales clean energy solutions across multiple countries, creating tangible environmental and economic impact.

About This Role

As a Global Graphic Design & Multimedia Intern, you'll craft visual stories that bridge technical knowledge and rural communities, from editing farmer testimonial videos to designing infographics for institutional clients. Your work will directly support Sistema.bio's global communication strategy, making complex sustainability concepts accessible and compelling.

💡 A Day in the Life

Start your day by reviewing design requests from the global communications team, then edit a farmer testimonial video using Adobe Premiere Pro, adding captions and b-roll. Midday, you'll collaborate via Slack with colleagues in Mexico and Kenya to refine an infographic for a grant proposal. In the afternoon, you'll brainstorm new social media concepts for World Environment Day, creating mockups in Canva for review.

🎯 Who Sistema.bio Is Looking For

  • A design student or recent graduate who is passionate about using visual storytelling for social and environmental causes, not just commercial aesthetics.
  • Proficient in Adobe Suite (especially Premiere Pro for video editing) and Canva, with a portfolio that includes both graphic design and multimedia projects like reels or short documentaries.
  • Comfortable working across time zones and cultures, with conversational English to collaborate with teams in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
  • Self-motivated and organized, able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision while proactively suggesting creative ideas.

📝 Tips for Applying to Sistema.bio

1

Tailor your portfolio to include examples of visual storytelling for non-profits or social enterprises, such as infographics explaining complex processes or videos featuring real people.

2

In your cover letter, explicitly connect your design skills to Sistema.bio's mission by referencing their work converting waste to energy and how your visuals could amplify that impact.

3

Demonstrate your video editing skills by including a link to a short reel or testimonial-style video you've created, even if it's a sample or personal project.

4

Research Sistema.bio's current social media channels and website, and mention a specific improvement you'd make to their visual content in your application.

5

Highlight any experience working with multicultural or remote teams, as this role involves collaborating with colleagues and farmers from diverse backgrounds.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Your commitment to environmental sustainability and rural development, and how this aligns with Sistema.bio's mission.", "Specific examples of how you've used design to simplify complex information (e.g., infographics, explainer videos) for diverse audiences.", 'Your ability to work autonomously in a remote, global team, with examples of managing projects across time zones or cultures.', 'A creative idea for a visual campaign or asset that could help Sistema.bio connect with farmers or institutional clients.']

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Submitting a generic portfolio without any social impact or multimedia work – this role specifically requires video editing and educational design.
  • Ignoring the remote/international aspect – failing to mention your availability across time zones or experience with virtual collaboration tools.
  • Focusing only on aesthetics without connecting design to mission – Sistema.bio values purpose-driven creativity over flashy visuals.
