General Counsel

Core responsibilities:

• Serve as legal counsel to the organization's leadership, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer
• Partner with senior leadership to develop a strong legal framework supporting organizational effectiveness, innovation, compliance, and risk mitigation
• Advise organizational leadership on governance issues and handle all staff union concerns
• Proactively support the Executive Director and Board of Directors in relationships with the global Amnesty International organization and external partners

This role creates positive change by ensuring Amnesty International USA operates within a strong legal framework that supports human rights advocacy, protects the organization from legal risks, and enables effective collaboration with global partners.

Required qualifications:

• Expertise in employment law and laws affecting non-profit advocacy organizations
• Experience handling confidential and sensitive matters
• Ability to manage multiple projects and legal concerns
• Experience advising senior leadership on governance and compliance issues
