What you will drive

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Grant Writer to help us secure foundation and institutional funding. Because our work sits at the unique intersection of legal ethics, public policy, transparency, and government oversight, we need a writer who can confidently navigate and translate these themes for philanthropic audiences. Key Responsibilities Conduct targeted prospect research to identify foundations aligned with legal advocacy, government transparency, and democratic accountability. Draft, edit, and submit compelling grant proposals, Letters of Inquiry (LOIs), and grant reports. Work with our leadership team to translate our ongoing database expansion and public accountability efforts into highly fundable program narratives. Qualifications Proven track record of successfully securing grants for 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Prior experience writing for legal advocacy, social justice, government oversight, or journalism/transparency organizations is highly preferred. Familiarity with the philanthropic landscape funding democracy and rule-of-law initiatives. Strong ability to understand and articulate complex legal and policy concepts clearly to non-lawyer audiences.
