Fellow – Climate Finance and Macroeconomic Issues

The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Fellow to work on climate finance and macroeconomic issues. The Fellow should be well-versed in global and domestic macroeconomic and policy developments, and possess the ability to frame and undertake research on topics of relevance in a rapidly changing world.

The Fellow will be expected to conceptualise a long-term research agenda, conduct independent research, and build a capable research team. The publication and dissemination of research are strongly encouraged.

Requirements: 

  • The candidate should hold a PhD in economics or a related field from a recognised and reputed institution in India or abroad. They should have a strong publication record with robust empirical and policy-oriented research. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to work across a broad range of topics, particularly in macroeconomics and climate change/finance.

  • At least seven years of relevant professional research experience in a public or private sector policy/research organisation, such as a think tank, bank, research institution, or academic institution. Experience working on India-related issues will be preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and analyse complex economic data.

  • Proven experience in conducting independent research projects, as reflected in publications, working papers, or research reports.

  • Experience with modelling and econometric techniques. Familiarity with statistical software such as Stata, EViews, Python, R etc. would be desirable.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex economic concepts clearly and concisely.

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.

  • Ability to plan and conduct high-quality research with robust data analysis in a timely manner, and to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • A strong passion for policy research and a commitment to generating evidence-based insights for policymaking.

  • Ability to build and lead the research team.

Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct in-depth research on a range of issues, including but not limited to macroeconomic topics such as economic growth, inflation, industry, agriculture, the external sector, and monetary and fiscal policy; climate finance; climate mitigation and adaptation; and reforms of international financial institutions.

  • Publish research outputs regularly and contribute to policy debates through high-quality data analysis and evidence-based insights.

  • Collect and analyse economic data using appropriate methodologies and statistical tools to generate meaningful insights.

  • Develop and apply research methodologies and analytical frameworks to address key research questions and produce rigorous reports and publications.

  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the design and execution of research projects.

  • Stay updated with the latest developments in economics and climate change, and actively participate in discussions and knowledge-sharing within and outside CSEP.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and research findings to internal stakeholders as well as external audiences.

  • Contribute to the development of grant proposals, research papers, and other publications.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior researchers and interns, as required.

  • Support the external dissemination of research through activities such as organising seminars, participating in public discussions, and writing opinion pieces.
