Core responsibilities:

• Work on figuring out how to best reduce suffering through open-ended research
• Explore the most important questions relating to how to best reduce suffering
• Shape the priorities of suffering reducers worldwide and the broader effective altruism community through research

This role creates positive change by working on an open-ended research program that fills an important gap in understanding how to best reduce suffering, with the opportunity to shape priorities for suffering reducers worldwide and the effective altruism community.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Driven by maximizing altruistic impact and intellectually curious about how to best do so
• Passionate about the mission to reduce suffering
• Excel at self-directed work without strong supervision
• Familiar with the core ideas of effective altruism, s-risks, and suffering-focused ethics
