Executive Editor, Vox

Core responsibilities:

• Oversee three editorial teams in the newsroom: Politics, Policy, and Ideas; Today, Explained and Explain It to Me; and Even Better and Lifestyle
• Shape vision and strategy for Vox's political journalism in 2026 and beyond, centering audiences who feel overlooked by traditional political coverage
• Direct daily, short-, and long-term editorial plans, managing the balance between original pieces and news-responsive content
• Develop coverage strategies that meet audience members where they are, including newer news consumers and younger audiences

This role creates positive change by ensuring Vox's political journalism serves audiences outside the political bubble, connects meaningfully with the next generation, and helps audiences understand what really matters in politics and policy.

Required qualifications:

• 10+ years of political journalism experience, including at least 5 years managing editorial teams
• Track record of original, ambitious political or policy journalism that reaches audiences beyond traditional political news consumers
• Strong vision for how political coverage needs to evolve with concrete ideas for Vox's future journalism
• Exceptional editorial judgment and ability to cut through noise with clarity and insight
• Demonstrated success developing talent and cultivating collaborative, inclusive teams

Salary range: $180,000 - $230,000 USD annually. The final salary offered will be based on factors including the candidate's skills and experience.
