Engineering Manager

About the Role / Overview

Partner closely with Product and Design counterparts to shape the AI Search Experience strategy and translate ambiguous problem spaces into clear technical direction.

Responsibilities / What You'll Do

• Support the team in building and improving AI-powered search features, including grounding LLM responses in structured data and the web, improving response quality, relevance, and trustworthiness, and tailoring outputs to specific user intents and use cases.
• Guide architectural decisions around LLM integration, retrieval systems, evaluation pipelines, and experimentation, and ensure operational excellence, reliability, observability, and scalability of AI systems in production.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of our internal frontend framework stack, ensuring it remains robust, well-documented, and easy to adopt by other teams.

This role contributes to Ecosia's mission to provide a modern, sovereign European-search experience and helps plant millions of trees where people and ecosystems need them most, making a real difference in the climate crisis.

• Enjoy developing and growing people and have a documented history of leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring engineers with different profiles and backgrounds.
• At least 5+ years of experience designing and shipping software to production, including guiding initiatives end-to-end (from problem framing to monitoring systems in production).
• Solid technical depth, with experience in AI/ML engineering, LLM-based systems, search, information retrieval, or data-intensive systems.
• Proficiency navigating a modern web stack, cloud environments, and infrastructure-as-code.
