Ecologists, Naturalists, and Taxonomic Experts for Uganda (remote / flexible / part-time role)

Core responsibilities:

• Identification of species from lowland Uganda through high-resolution images (plants and/or mammals) or acoustic data (birds, bats, and/or frogs) shared online.
• Support the design of biodiversity surveys and help train machine learning models by annotating image and/or acoustic data.
• Provide feedback on data collection methods to improve automated identification using machine learning.

Your expertise will help protect nature by providing robust evidence, and together you will build the most detailed set of annotated, species-level biodiversity data ever compiled, supporting the mission of protecting and restoring biodiversity.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Expertise in identifying birds, bats, frogs, plants, or mammals from acoustic data or high-resolution images.
• Ability to add species labels to audio or image files to name the species present.
• Experience in biodiversity or ecological expertise relevant to lowland Uganda.
• Willingness to complete a short trial exercise to demonstrate expertise.
