Distributed Organizing Director (New Salary Range. Candidates can be based anywhere in the US.)

Core responsibilities:

• Recruiting and managing volunteers in Climate Defiance chapters in key cities across the U.S.
• Helping to establish new Climate Defiance chapters
• Ongoing coaching and mentoring of volunteers and leaders via phone, video, email, and in-person meetings
• Organizing actions in multiple cities and attending events
• Running group and individual trainings with volunteers and leaders
• Working with volunteers to take on increasing levels of responsibility, including into leadership roles
• Travel to cities for site visits and actions (25% time on the road expected)
• Administrative responsibilities, including tracking volunteer outreach, turnout, and more

This role helps elevate climate change as a top political issue in the US through direct actions, creative protests, and grassroots pressure on political leaders, working to move the needle on climate change and shake society awake.

Required qualifications:

• Minimum of two years of organizing or campaigning experience
• Experience managing teams of volunteers
• Experience participating in and/or leading nonviolent direct actions (disruptive actions such as creative protests, strikes, sit-ins, or blockades)
• Strong communication skills
• Flexibility and readiness for actions and site visits
• Travel expectation of 25%

Preferred qualifications:

• At least one year of experience running a distributed organizing program
• Experience in leading systematic conflict resolution
• Convictions aligned with the principles of nonviolent confrontation, direct action, and disruption

Climate Defiance has a 3-tier salary scale:

• Staff with 0-3 years of relevant full-time experience: $50,000
• Staff with 4-10 years of relevant full-time experience: $65,000
• Staff with 11+ years of relevant full-time experience: $80,000
