Director of Strategic Communications - External Relations

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Strategic Communications - External Relations to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic communications plan that enhances the university's reputation and promotes its mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that aligns with the university's goals and objectives
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the university on external communications
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including media, alumni, and community leaders
  • Develop and disseminate key messages and communications materials, including press releases, media advisories, and social media content
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement communications strategies that support university initiatives and programs
  • Analyze and report on the effectiveness of communications efforts

About the Role

  • The Director of Strategic Communications - External Relations will be a key member of the university's communications team and will work closely with other departments to achieve the university's goals and objectives
  • The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of strategic communications principles and practices, as well as experience in developing and implementing communications plans
  • The Director will be responsible for managing a team of communications professionals and will provide guidance and support to ensure the success of the team
  • The Director will also be responsible for developing and managing the communications budget

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in strategic communications, with a focus on external relations
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communications plans
  • Strong understanding of strategic communications principles and practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in strategic communications, with a focus on external relations
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communications plans
  • Strong understanding of strategic communications principles and practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
