Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Strategic Communications - External Relations to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic communications plan that enhances the university's reputation and promotes its mission, vision, and values.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that aligns with the university's goals and objectives
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the university on external communications
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including media, alumni, and community leaders
- Develop and disseminate key messages and communications materials, including press releases, media advisories, and social media content
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement communications strategies that support university initiatives and programs
- Analyze and report on the effectiveness of communications efforts
About the Role
- The Director of Strategic Communications - External Relations will be a key member of the university's communications team and will work closely with other departments to achieve the university's goals and objectives
- The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of strategic communications principles and practices, as well as experience in developing and implementing communications plans
- The Director will be responsible for managing a team of communications professionals and will provide guidance and support to ensure the success of the team
- The Director will also be responsible for developing and managing the communications budget
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in strategic communications, with a focus on external relations
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communications plans
- Strong understanding of strategic communications principles and practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in strategic communications, with a focus on external relations
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communications plans
- Strong understanding of strategic communications principles and practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
