Job Summary:
Directs, manages, and oversees all aspects of marketing and communications work for Efficiency Vermont as guided by the Managing Director, Efficiency Vermont. Understands the reputation, brand, and performance goals of Efficiency Vermont and develops and implements marketing and communications strategies to effectively support all of them. Communicates externally and manages relationships with key stakeholders, and the media in support of Efficiency Vermont’s goals while contributing to a mission-driven, creative, enjoyable and stimulating work environment.

This is a hybrid position, and the ideal candidate will be located in Vermont.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and lead integrated marketing and communications strategies that drive measurable engagement, participation, and results across commercial, nonprofit, and small business and residential markets (B2B & B2C), with specific attention to Efficiency Vermont’s regulatory, political, and community context.
- Partner closely with program and/or community engagement teams to co-design campaigns and materials that effectively reach historically underserved, income-eligible, rural, and hard-to-reach audiences, ensuring strategies are culturally responsive, accessible, and locally relevant.
- Translate organizational goals and program priorities into clear, audience-specific value propositions, messaging frameworks, and create go-to-market plans tailored to diverse customer segments, trade allies, community partners, and stakeholders.
- Oversee brand strategy, ensuring consistency, clarity, and credibility across all channels while allowing flexibility for channel-based and partner-led approaches.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary marketing and communications team, setting clear priorities, performance expectations, and workflows that balance strategic planning with timely execution.
- In collaboration with the Digital Engagement Manager and Digital Content Strategist, guide the development and optimization of digital platforms and content (websites, resources/blog, email, social, paid media).
- Use data, research, and customer insights (e.g., CRM data, Voice of the Customer, campaign performance metrics, qualitative and quantitative research) to inform strategy, refine targeting, and continuously improve outreach effectiveness.
- Collaborate with team of Integrated Marketing Managers to manage external partners and vendors (agencies, designers, media buyers, community organizations) to deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.
- Oversee public relations strategy and directly manage the Public Relations Manager, including earned media, messaging, issue framing, and proactive storytelling that advances organizational goals and strengthens credibility with stakeholders, partners, and the public.
- Collaborate cross-functionally within the division and corporate MarCom team to ensure marketing strategies align with program design, timelines, and compliance requirements.
- Serve as a senior leader on the Efficiency Vermont leadership team, contributing to organizational planning, stakeholder engagement, and thought leadership related to market transformation and community impact.
- Demonstrates leadership and dedicated commitment to the pursuit of VEIC mission, vision, and core values.
- Supports activities of other staff, groups, and divisions within VEIC as necessary to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals and values of VEIC.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant business field plus a minimum of eight years’ experience in marketing, communications, and public affairs or related fields, including experience providing people leadership, coaching staff, and managing team performance, or a similar combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills were acquired.
- Minimum of three years of management experience, including leadership, facilitation, staff supervision, resource management, contract management, budget management, and the ability to develop and attain goals.
- The ability to communicate with credibility, approachability, and reasonableness. Particularly important are:
- Excellent listening skills
- Excellent informing skills for a wide range of audiences
- Excellent public presentation skills
- Excellent writing skills
- Demonstrated ability in both leading and working within a team environment and supporting the needs of internal clients, agencies, designers, media and vendors.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- This position primarily involves desk-based work with extensive collaboration and communication responsibilities. Physical requirements include:
- Ability to remain stationary at a workstation for extended periods (typically 6-8 hours per day with regular breaks)
- Regular use of computer, keyboard, mouse, and telephone/headset requiring fine motor skills and repetitive hand/wrist movements
- Visual acuity to view digital screens, documents, and presentations for prolonged periods
- Verbal communication abilities are sufficient for clear articulation during in-person and virtual meetings, presentations, and discussions
- Auditory capabilities to participate effectively in conversations, conference calls, and virtual collaboration sessions
- Cognitive focus for simultaneous management of multiple communication streams, projects, and stakeholder relationships
- Occasional movement between meeting spaces, collaboration areas, and individual workstations
- Minimal lifting requirements (typically under 15 pounds) for office supplies, equipment, or materials

Additional Requirements for Roles Involving Travel and / or Site Visits:

- Ability to travel independently to various locations (up to 25-30% of work time), which may include driving, flying, or using public transportation
- Physical mobility to navigate various building environments including commercial facilities, construction sites, mechanical rooms, and/or residential properties
- Capability to climb stairs, stand for extended periods during site visits (1-3 hours), and occasionally access confined spaces or use ladders
- Tolerance for varying environmental conditions including temperature fluctuations, construction noise, and outdoor weather during site assessments
- Ability to safely lift and carry equipment, tools, or materials weighing up to 40 pounds
- Manual dexterity to operate testing equipment, measurement devices, or other field tools as required
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional to Moderate Travel
- This position involves occasional to moderate travel (approximately 5–30% of work time, or 2–7 days per month). Travel may include regional site visits, partner meetings, or VEIC gatherings. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel independently within the service region are required. Overnight stays may occasionally be necessary.
