Director, Effective Altruism Germany (Effektiver Altruismus Deutschland e.V.)
About EA Germany
EA Germany (EAD) is the umbrella organisation for Germany’s EA community—the third-largest national EA community globally and the largest in continental Europe. We support career changes toward high-impact work through personalised mentoring and events like EAGxBerlin (640+ attendees in 2025).
We’ll explore a hub-based model in 2026—establishing a physical presence with regular programming whilst maintaining our successful nationwide career support services such as 1-1 online career advising.
The Role
We’re hiring a Director to lead this strategic shift and grow EA Germany’s impact. You’ll manage a small team, set organisational strategy, maintain funder relationships (primarily CEA’s Community Building Grant programme), and build EA Germany’s physical hub.
Key Responsibilities
-
Strategic leadership: Set and execute EA Germany’s strategy, with particular focus on establishing and running the hub (regular outreach events, coworking sessions, local mentoring); represent EA Germany externally
-
Programme oversight: Guide core programmes—EAGxBerlin, weekend seminars, mentoring, Intro Program collaboration with CEA
-
Hands-on programme work: Conduct career 1-1s with promising individuals; develop and pilot new programmes based on strategic priorities
-
Fundraising and stakeholder management: Manage relationship with CEA and other funders; write grant applications; report on impact; report to board
-
Team management: conduct 1-1s with team members; develop team capacity
Location & Structure
-
Location: Berlin strongly preferred. We’ll consider Munich or other major German cities for exceptional candidates with strong local networks and established infrastructure.
-
FTE: 1.0 FTE, 35 hours/week. We’ll consider applications for min. 30h/week.
-
Start date: May or June 2026
-
Salary: €60,000–75,000 gross p.a. for full-time, depending on experience and location
-
30 days annual leave
Who We’re Looking For
Required:*
-
Genuine commitment to Effective Altruism principles and familiarity with the EA community
-
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and prioritise
-
Strong organisational and project management skills
-
German fluency (written and spoken)
-
English fluency (written and spoken)
-
Legal right to work in Germany
Strongly preferred:
-
Experience building communities or running events
-
Track record in fundraising or grant management
-
Prior involvement in EA community building or similar mission-driven work
Nice to have:
-
Familiarity with Berlin’s (or another German city’s) ecosystem of universities and impact-driven organisations
-
Experience with monitoring and evaluation frameworks
-
Management experience (team leadership, delegation, performance management)
-
Existing connections to German EA groups or adjacent communities
What We Offer
-
High autonomy and strategic influence in shaping Germany’s EA ecosystem
-
Experienced board that provides strategic oversight, feedback and support
-
Established organisational infrastructure (operations, CRM, fiscal sponsorship programmes already running)
-
Strong, efficient and very supportive team that works well together
-
Clear impact pathway: our 2025 data shows direct attribution from our work to career changes
-
Flexible work setup in a remote team
