Deputy Director

Core responsibilities:

• Oversee core operations including finance, HR, compliance, event logistics, and grantmaking operations
• Drive goal-setting and planning processes, translate high-level priorities into concrete plans, and ensure accountability
• Manage organizational health by thinking holistically about team structure, communication flows, and culture building
• Provide thought partnership to other leaders across MBDF and help navigate challenges

This role helps prevent potentially catastrophic risks from mirror life by supporting an organization that facilitates constructive dialogue between scientists, policymakers, and civil society to ensure mirror organisms are never created.

Required skills and experience:

• Demonstrated ability to execute on ideas and deliver results on hard problems
• Strong judgment on people and stakeholders with experience navigating tricky situations
• Comfort managing diverse functions without needing to be a subject-matter expert in all areas
• Experience overseeing operations functions (finance, HR, compliance, events)
• Background in communications, stakeholder management, or public affairs
• Strong project management instincts and experience managing and developing teams

Compensation: $180-210k USD + full benefits

Location: Remote organization with flexible working arrangements
