Data Scientist (Australia)

The Data Scientist will:

• Help develop KoBold's proprietary software exploration tools
• Find and curate geophysical, geochemical, geologic, and geographic data and integrate it into KoBold's proprietary data system
• Build models to make statistically valid predictions about the locations of compositional anomalies within the Earth's crust
• Create effective visualizations for evaluating model performance and enabling rapid interaction with the underlying data and key features
• Develop and apply data processing, statistical, and physics-based techniques to geoscientific data and use the results to guide targeting efforts and inform acquisition and exploration decisions
• Present to and collaborate with external partners and stakeholders

This role helps accelerate the discovery of critical battery metals needed for electric vehicles, renewable energy, and data centers by building AI models and data tools for mineral exploration, making the mining industry more efficient and sustainable.

A great Data Scientist candidate will have:

• Technical skills including extensive experience with Python's data science packages, collaborative software development (git), cloud computing resources, building predictive models, data from physical systems, and geospatial analyses
• Technical knowledge including broad skills in applied statistics and Bayesian inference, and substantial understanding of machine learning algorithms
• Work practices and motivation including ability to design technical solutions to novel problems, demonstrated intellectual rigor, exceptional curiosity, excitement about joining a fast-growing early-stage company, and ability to independently prioritize multiple tasks
• Helpful but not required experience with machine learning models on geospatial data, geostatistics, image processing or computer vision, and distributed computing applications
