How to Apply for ClimateTech - Senior DevOps (all genders)

at Global Changer

🏢 About Global Changer

Global Changer is building an automated platform that helps B2B companies achieve Net-Zero emissions faster, directly tackling climate change through technology. Their focus on efficient, data-driven solutions for environmental impact makes this role meaningful beyond typical tech positions. Working here means contributing to a mission-driven company where your DevOps expertise directly enables climate action.

About This Role

As Senior DevOps, you'll own the entire lifecycle of self-managed Kubernetes clusters, ensuring high availability even during hardware failures or problematic updates. This role is critical because you'll establish operational best practices for a platform that helps businesses reduce emissions, making reliability directly tied to climate impact. You'll be the go-to expert for designing, building, and operating infrastructure that supports automated Net-Zero solutions.

💡 A Day in the Life

You might start by monitoring cluster health and responding to any overnight alerts, then work on improving GitOps workflows using Flux/Argo CD. Afternoon could involve collaborating with development teams on security policies or designing resilient architectures for new platform features. You'll regularly troubleshoot infrastructure issues while ensuring the platform remains available for businesses working toward Net-Zero goals.

🎯 Who Global Changer Is Looking For

  • Has 5+ years in DevOps/SRE with 3+ years running self-managed Kubernetes in production (not just managed cloud services like EKS/GKE)
  • Demonstrates hands-on experience with GitOps tooling (Flux or Argo CD), Helm/Kustomize, and Terraform for Infrastructure as Code
  • Shows strong security implementation skills: RBAC least-privilege, image provenance, secrets management, and admission policies
  • Has experience designing resilient systems that survive hardware failures, power issues, and problematic kernel updates

📝 Tips for Applying to Global Changer

1

Highlight specific examples of running self-managed Kubernetes clusters (not just managed cloud services) - mention hardware, on-prem, or bare-metal experience

2

Demonstrate your GitOps workflow experience by mentioning specific projects with Flux or Argo CD and how you used Helm/Kustomize

3

Show how you've implemented security fundamentals in Kubernetes: provide concrete examples of RBAC policies, image signing, or secrets management

4

Tailor your resume to show Infrastructure as Code expertise with Terraform and configuration management tools like Ansible

5

Connect your experience to reliability during failures - mention specific incidents where you maintained platform availability during hardware/power/kernel issues

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Explain why you're passionate about applying DevOps skills to climate technology and Net-Zero solutions", 'Detail your hands-on experience with self-managed Kubernetes clusters (not just cloud-managed)', "Highlight specific security implementations you've done in Kubernetes environments", "Describe how you've established operational best practices that improved team workflows"]

🔍 Research Before Applying

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • Research the company's specific Net-Zero platform and how it helps B2B companies reduce emissions
  • Understand the climate tech landscape and how automated data solutions contribute to emissions reduction
  • Look into the technical challenges of building reliable platforms for environmental data (data integrity, uptime requirements)
  • Explore the EU's climate regulations and how they might impact B2B companies using Global Changer's platform

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 Walk through your process for designing and deploying a self-managed Kubernetes cluster from scratch
2 How would you handle a kernel update that breaks cluster nodes while maintaining platform availability?
3 Describe your GitOps workflow using Flux or Argo CD with specific examples of Helm/Kustomize usage
4 Explain how you implement security controls in Kubernetes: RBAC, image provenance, secrets management
5 How do you ensure platform reliability during hardware failures or power issues in a self-hosted environment?

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Only listing managed Kubernetes experience (EKS/GKE/AKS) without self-managed cluster expertise
  • Vague descriptions of security implementations - be specific about RBAC, image signing, or admission policies
  • Failing to demonstrate how you've handled infrastructure failures or maintained availability during incidents
