AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Climate Adaptation and Resilience Senior Consultant in the following locations: San Franciso, CA; Oakland, CA; Sacramento, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Chicago, IL. Additional locations may be considered depending on experience and qualifications.
The selected candidate will join our growing Advisory business line, a team of 400 staff globally comprised of business and policy analysts, economists, commercial strategists, sustainability and resilience planners, and change management practitioners. We integrate strategic consulting with policy and technical expertise to help cities, transit agencies, state and regional governments, and other public entities tackle their most pressing challenges and better serve their constituents.
The Senior Consultant position will support a variety of service areas on our Advisory team with a focus on adaptation and resilience planning for local governments and public agencies, though private sector experience is welcomed. Strong technical, writing, and communication skills, as well as a background in climate and sea level rise vulnerability assessments and adaptation planning, are essential. Ideal candidates will have experience developing or implementing resilience strategies related to infrastructure, governance, and/or policy. Experience in urban planning or policy modeling/design is also beneficial.
The Senior Consultant will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to lead discrete technical tasks, including developing and implementing quantitative analytical approaches; conducting analysis; developing graphics and presentations to communicate key findings; and writing sections of client deliverables and proposals. The position requires the ability to work closely with managers to balance multiple projects and deadlines, delegate and manage appropriate tasks to junior staff, and communicate clearly with both clients and other team members.

Knowledge and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the development and implementation of climate vulnerability assessments, climate adaptation and resilience plans, strategies, and policy initiatives
- Contributing to capacity‑building efforts, including decision‑support tools, strategy development, and community engagement
- Preparing and reviewing strategic plans, reports, presentations, guidelines, and analytical tools
- Using GIS to analyze climate vulnerability and produce mapping products
- Interpreting and applying local, regional, state, and federal climate adaptation and resilience policies and regulations
- Coordinating public engagement activities, stakeholder workshops, and outreach for planning documents and approvals
- Collaborating with technical experts on project and program development
- Conducting research and analysis related to climate, environmental conditions, demographics, and socio‑economic trends
- Demonstrating knowledge of resilience planning, risk assessment, climate hazards, funding mechanisms, and relevant federal/state programs
- Exhibiting strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
