How to Apply for Civil Design Manager, Data Center Sites - Remote (U.S.)

at AECOM

🏢 About AECOM

AECOM is a global leader in infrastructure consulting, committed to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions that build legacies. With a strong presence in the data center industry across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, AECOM offers unparalleled opportunities to work on high-profile, fast-paced projects for global clients. The company's focus on sustainability and collaborative culture makes it an attractive place for engineers seeking impactful careers.

About This Role

This role involves managing the civil design of greenfield and add/move/change projects for colocation and hyper-scale data centers, from due diligence through construction administration. You will lead campus planning, conceptual/schematic/detailed design, and coordinate with global teams, making a direct impact on the infrastructure that powers the digital world. It's a hands-on, client-facing position with significant upward mobility.

💡 A Day in the Life

Your day might start with a virtual check-in with your global team to review progress on a hyper-scale data center campus plan. You'll then review design documents, coordinate with utility providers, and lead a client call to discuss schematic design options. After lunch, you'll mentor junior engineers on grading and drainage design for a greenfield project, and end the day by updating project schedules and risk registers.

🎯 Who AECOM Is Looking For

  • A professional engineer (PE) with extensive experience in civil engineering design management, specifically for industrial and data center projects.
  • Proven ability to oversee all project phases: due diligence, campus planning, conceptual design, detailed design, construction documents, and construction administration.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience in client-facing roles and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong technical knowledge of civil and utility infrastructure for hyper-scale data centers, including site grading, drainage, utilities, and paving.

📝 Tips for Applying to AECOM

1

Highlight specific data center projects you've managed, including project size, scope, and your role in delivering them on time and budget.

2

Emphasize your experience with both greenfield and add/move/change projects, as the job description explicitly mentions both.

3

Tailor your resume to demonstrate proficiency in all project phases mentioned, from due diligence to construction administration.

4

Showcase your ability to work remotely and collaborate with global teams, as the role is remote but requires occasional travel and coordination across time zones.

5

Include any experience with sustainable design or LEED certification, aligning with AECOM's commitment to sustainable legacies.
