Chief Scientific Officer

Core responsibilities:

• Optimize the backcross breeding program and improve field quality control systems
• Provide leadership team responsibilities including departmental budgeting, HR, planning, and reporting
• Oversee the expansion of the gene editing program and manage gene editing collaborations
• Provide high-level direction of conventional backcrossing and gene editing programs

This role creates positive change by developing biofortified maize seeds that improve nutrition for millions of people in Central America and Sub-Saharan Africa, with a vision to reach over 100 million people in the next ten years.

Required qualifications:

• PhD with experience or MSc with at least 8 years' experience in crop breeding or related field
• Demonstrated leadership in breeding-related operations including program design, field experimentation, and data management
• Experience with strategy development and planning/optimization for conventional or genomics based breeding programs
• Data analysis abilities and strong verbal and written communication skills

Salary range: $160,000-$190,000 annually. Competitive benefits package. Remote work with travel (~15%) to Guatemala.
