Mission

What you will drive

Core responsibilities:

  • Represent individuals, including those sentenced to death, in direct appeals and petitions for rehearing before the California Supreme Court and petitions for certiorari to the United States Supreme Court
  • Represent individuals, including those sentenced to death, in related post-conviction proceedings in California superior courts and courts of appeal
  • Prepare limited petitions for writ of habeas corpus and related pleadings before California courts at various levels
  • Provide representation in all litigation following from any evidentiary hearings ordered in relation to habeas corpus petitions

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Experienced attorney with knowledge of post-conviction criminal defense
  • Knowledge and experience with the Racial Justice Act
  • Some trial experience or experience litigating writs of habeas corpus (preferred)
  • Ability to undertake significant roles in developing and presenting complex factual and legal issues
