Mission

What you will drive

  • Conduct community engagement and outreach in Black rural frontline communities, including door-knocking, flyering, and one-on-one relational meetings.
  • Support community visioning and planning sessions to identify needs and develop strategies for collective action.
  • Help plan and facilitate community events, town halls, and campaign actions to build local leadership and power.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as data entry, documentation, and maintaining community databases.

Profile

What makes you a great fit

  • Recent college or high school graduate with passion for climate justice and community organizing.
  • Strong commitment to environmental, social, and economic justice, and Black liberation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to build trusting relationships in rural communities.
  • Comfortable with travel (up to 50%) and working independently as well as collaboratively.

Benefits

What's in it for you

Annual salary of $50,000 (non-exempt, eligible for overtime). Full-time (40 hours/week) fixed-term apprenticeship from June 2026 to May 2027. Eligible for TCLP benefits. Standard work equipment provided (laptop and charger). Ongoing feedback and formal evaluations. Upon successful completion, may be considered for a full-time Community Organizer position.

The Chisholm Legacy Project is a resource hub for Black frontline climate justice leadership, rooted in the Just Transition Framework. It connects Black communities with resources to advance systems change centered in equity and justice, supporting a shift from extractivism to a living economy that cares for sacred relationships between people and Mother Earth.
