Bilingual Paralegal, Consumer Debt Solutions

Core responsibilities:

• Provide real-time and offline support to consumers of the Debt Help Illinois platform in English and Spanish
• Design and staff a virtual help desk for Illinois consumers using Debt Help Illinois
• Guide consumers through the platform, identify when deeper legal assistance is needed, and respond to feedback
• Work with the Consumer Debt Solutions Product Manager to update legal information on Debt Help Illinois

This role helps break down barriers to justice by providing accessible legal support and information to historically oppressed communities in Illinois, enabling people to understand and assert their legal rights regarding consumer debt issues.

Required qualifications:

• Paralegal certification required
• Ability to speak, interpret, and write English and Spanish fluently
• 5-10 years of paralegal experience, with preference for experience in legal aid or consumer debt issues
• Strong client-facing and customer support skills with ability to communicate with diverse individuals
• Proficient in using computers and mobile devices with ability to quickly learn new software
• Ability to conduct legal research and provide appropriate legal information on consumer debt problems
