Back-end Software Engineer

Core responsibilities:

• Effectively performing all activities related to developing software solutions including research, analysis, programming, testing, and support according to the chosen development methodology
• Coordinating work regularly with the designated team including other developers, product owners, focus groups, and CTO
• Helping stakeholders including non-technical staff and human rights partner organizations by providing relevant information and proactively coaching them
• Planning, testing, and releasing software while maintaining a positive attitude toward software security and development best practices

This role contributes to Uwazi, an open-source knowledge management tool used by human rights defenders worldwide to manage collections of information, empowering them to act strategically on human rights information.

Required skills and qualifications:

• 3+ years in software development
• Proficiency in JavaScript
• Experience in React, Node.js, and TypeScript
• Proactive and independent working style under minimal supervision
• Committed to human rights and interested in information management

Competitive salary for a human rights NGO ranging from USD 30,000 to USD 55,000 per year depending on location and experience. Staff have 20 days of paid vacation, plus paid year-end office closing and local bank holidays. The position is hired on a consultancy contract.
