Back End Engineer

Core responsibilities for this Back End Engineer role:

• Design and develop cross-functional, multi-platform application systems to ingest, process, analyze, and serve large amounts of data in the cloud, often in real-time
• Own the full lifecycle of services: from writing code to deploying, monitoring, and operating it in production, including managing cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines
• Work hands-on across the stack with NodeJS/TypeScript/Python, designing APIs and integrating disparate technologies like remote sensing and machine learning
• Collaborate with clients, data scientists, front-end engineers, project managers, and designers to define requirements and propose creative technical solutions

This role creates positive change by developing data-driven tools and applications that address climate change, biodiversity, and inequality, empowering people to make positive environmental changes through technology.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Proficiency in NodeJS/TypeScript/Python with experience in server-side programming and API design
• Strong DevOps mindset with experience in cloud platforms (AWS preferred), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), Docker, CI/CD, and production monitoring
• Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases including SQL, and experience with microservices architectures
• Experience with the entire project lifecycle including production deployments, and ability to write clean, documented code with automated tests

Compensation and benefits include:

• Annual salary between €30,000 - €49,000 depending on experience
• Annual profit-sharing bonus plan (up to 10% of salary)
