Associate Software Engineer

Pro Bono Net is a nonprofit organization that provides technology and expertise to support the delivery of legal aid and access to justice. We are seeking an Associate Software Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities

• Support the maintenance and enhancement of Pro Bono Net's award-winning .NET web applications, including LawHelp Interactive and Citizenshipworks
• Contribute to the development of new .NET-based web applications and features with guidance from senior engineering staff
• Handle level 2 technical support requests, including bug tracking, database development and maintenance, third-party system setup, and configuration updates
• Learn and expand technical skills through mentorship from Tech and Product team staff, gaining broad exposure to software development, technical support, and project management processes

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
• 0-2 years of experience in software development, preferably with .NET
• Strong understanding of software development principles, including design patterns and testing methodologies
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with .NET web development frameworks (e.g. ASP.NET MVC, Web API)
• Experience with database development and maintenance (e.g. SQL Server)
• Experience with third-party system setup and configuration
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g. Jenkins, Docker)

Required skills and qualifications:

• At least two years of professional experience in .NET development with knowledge of C#, JavaScript, DHTML, CSS, MS SQL Server, Visual Studio, Azure Cloud, and GitHub
• Broad, general knowledge of—and willingness to work across—a range of technology areas including network administration, security, reporting, SDLC processes, social media integration, and Generative AI
• Strong analytical skills and technical aptitude with ability to pick up new technical skills quickly on the job with limited direct training
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), including ability to translate technical concepts into terms that non-technical staff will understand
• Demonstrated interest in the nonprofit sector, public interest or social justice arena
