About

We are seeking a creative and results-driven Marketing Specialist to join our team organizing the Boston Comics in Color Festival. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing marketing strategies to promote the event on April 3 - 4, 2026. Boston Comics in Color Festival is a program targeted at the BIPOC comics and graphic novels/pop culture fans; applicants must have strong connections to the BIPOC Massachusetts community.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute a marketing campaign to promote the upcoming festival on April 3 - 4, 2026.
  • Engage with the regional BIPOC literary, comics, and pop culture fan community.
  • Develop an advertising strategy including both social media and print media.
  • Develop and execute email newsletter campaigns.
  • Assist with social media posts.
  • Coordinate the measurement of attendance at the 2026 festival.
  • Must be available to attend the event.

Goals

  • Increase festival attendance by 15%.

Work Requirements

  • Hourly commitment is 6 hours per week increasing to 10 hours for the final two weeks.
  • Timeline for this position is 3 months starting immediately.
  • This is a paid freelance position with a $2500 stipend.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in marketing, preferably in a similar industry.
  • Interest in and awareness of the current comics/graphic novels/pop culture landscape.
  • Proficiency in marketing software and tools (e.g., Mailchimp, social media platforms, SEO tools).
  • Possess strong written and design skills using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
