Legal Research & Policy Manager

The Legal Research & Policy Manager will:

• Conduct and coordinate historical, sociological, policy, legal, and movement research and analysis to support L4BL staff, members, and movement partners nationwide
• Manage the organization's research and policy contributions to the field, including synthesizing existing and emerging research and developing policy recommendations
• Draft memos, reports, and other materials to meet local community partners' research needs, including budget analysis, regulatory explainers, and legislative impact assessments
• Develop and facilitate political and legal education trainings around key movement, policy, and legal issues

This role creates positive change by developing and publishing research that supports transforming the law for the betterment of Black people, working directly with movement organizations leading visionary campaigns toward Black liberation, and building a legal infrastructure that is responsive, action-oriented, and collaborative.

Required qualifications include:

• J.D. or similar advanced degree with extensive research requirements
• 3-5 years of experience conducting legal, policy, movement, or sociological research
• Deep commitment to L4BL's values and strong understanding of Black liberation, intersectionality, and anti-oppression principles
• Experience with coalition building and working with community/movement organizations, preferably in Black liberation work
• Strong writing, editing, and relationship-building skills with ability to translate complex ideas for public audiences

Compensation: $85,000 - $93,000 annually commensurate with experience. Benefits include:
