Energy Market Risk Manager

Core responsibilities:

• Lead market risk analysis by driving technical analysis of physical and financial positions in ERCOT and CAISO markets, quantifying and communicating market risk exposures to leadership and internal stakeholders, and providing subject matter expertise on market rules, structures, and trading dynamics.
• Build and maintain risk tools by designing, developing, and optimizing advanced risk analytics using Python, SQL and Google Cloud Platform, creating scalable risk management applications, and overseeing the creation and upkeep of Business Intelligence (BI) dashboards and Python-based reporting tools.
• Support reporting and compliance by delivering timely, accurate, and investor-ready risk reports aligned with policy requirements, ensuring adherence to Intersect’s risk policies through careful monitoring and documentation, and partnering with leadership to refine and improve reporting processes and methodologies.

This role contributes to Intersect Power's mission by managing market risks in energy markets, supporting the development and operation of renewable energy portfolios, and ensuring accurate risk reporting to leadership and investors, thereby facilitating the transition to cleaner energy sources.

Required skills, experience, qualifications:

• At least 5 years of direct experience in ERCOT and/or CAISO markets.
• Strong background in quantitative analysis within the energy sector.
• Expertise in Python and SQL for data modeling, analytics, and application development.
• Proven knowledge of quantitative finance concepts, including Value-at-Risk (VaR) and Mark-to-Market (MTM).
• Experience with BI tools and cloud-based platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex risk concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
