Core responsibilities:

• Support a team of reporters and fellows to center The 19th's story standards and audience needs throughout journalism every day
• Edit stories daily across various types and formats, provide second edits, and prepare stories for publication
• Help design and implement daily, weekly, and monthly coverage plans leveraging audience insights and reporter expertise
• Work with reporters to develop stories, diversify sourcing, assign story ideas, and monitor news to connect gender to politics, policy, and power

This role creates positive change by producing timely, high-quality journalism that serves women and LGBTQ+ people, connecting gender to politics, policy, and power to build a collective body of representative journalism.

Required skills and experience:

• 4+ years of experience editing and assigning stories in a newsroom
• Demonstrated news judgment and ability to publish audience-centered stories across various story types and formats
• Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication with experience using digital tools for remote collaboration
• Experience using content management systems (WordPress), calendar tools (Airtable), and audience analytics tools (Parsely)

Compensation and benefits:

• Salary range: $105,000 - $140,000
• Vacation time off (20 days per year), sick time off (10 days), personal time off (6 days), paid holidays (22 days in 2026)
