Comms Team Member

Core responsibilities for communications team members:

• Manage MIRI's communications systems including inboxes, newsletters, website updates, and social media accounts to ensure timely and effective outreach
• Expand MIRI's presence through social media strategy, content creation, and building relationships with journalists, content creators, and allied organizations
• Analyze communication effectiveness through metrics, message testing, and audience analysis to refine MIRI's messaging and identify key opportunities
• Create written content including explainers, press releases, and essays to make technical AI safety concepts accessible to various audiences

This role helps prevent existential risks from advanced AI by effectively communicating MIRI's research and ideas to policymakers, AI developers, and the general public, increasing awareness and promoting smarter decision-making about AI safety.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Experience in communications, social media management, media outreach, or related fields with demonstrated ability to execute strategic initiatives
• Strong writing skills with ability to create clear, compelling content about complex technical topics for diverse audiences
• Quantitative and analytical mindset for tracking effectiveness, running message testing, and developing actionable metrics
• High conscientiousness, attention to detail, and ability to build/maintain systems while working independently as a self-directed agent

Compensation and benefits:

• Salaries range from $80,000 to $160,000+ for junior to senior candidates, with higher compensation for exceptional candidates
• Remote work possible with occasional travel to California (1-4 times per year)
