Chair of the Board of Trustees

Core responsibilities:

• Provide leadership to the Board, ensuring alignment with the association's mission, values, and strategic goals
• Oversee the implementation of robust governance practices, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with trustees and the operational team to develop, implement, and monitor the association’s strategic plan
• Chair Board meetings effectively, setting dates, supporting agenda writing and meeting facilitation

This role provides leadership to ensure Project Play operates effectively to support and advocate for children and families on the move in northern France, creating safe spaces that nurture key developmental skills and build self-esteem for vulnerable children.

Required skills and experience:

• Experience on a charity or business board
• Demonstrated experience in leadership, governance, or committee roles
• Excellent interpersonal skills to build positive relationships across the organisation
• A good awareness of financial oversight, risk management, and legal responsibilities of trustees

The role is voluntary with reasonable expenses reimbursed in line with the association's policies. The Chair is appointed for a term of one year, renewable upon agreement from the board.

Project Play supports and advocates for children and families on the move in northern France by providing play, parental support and case work through structured play sessions in Calais, Dunkirk and surrounding areas.
