Audience Engagement Contractor

Core responsibilities:

• Data-driven audience growth and development including creating lead advertisements, devising strategies for driving new readers, and managing paid promotional campaigns
• Social media management across Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and YouTube including strategy oversight, content management, and engagement analysis
• Communications and reporting including creating audience progress reports, developing communication materials for donors, and featuring reader voices
• Work with editorial team to ensure engaging content flow and organize reader focus groups

This role supports Barn Raiser's mission to provide independent news and analysis covering rural America by attracting new readers and engaging current readers and donors, helping to amplify diverse rural voices and viewpoints.

Required skills and experience:

• Deep knowledge of and connection to rural America preferred
• Experience with audience engagement or strategy and deep knowledge of current social media platforms, algorithms, and best practices
• Experience with email marketing providers (Active Campaign a plus) and email best practices
• Strong analytic skills with familiarity using spreadsheets, audience metrics and analytics
• Working knowledge of video production and editing (CapCut, Adobe) and understanding of visual aesthetics and design tools (Canva, Adobe)
• Strong word editing and organizational skills
• Strong people skills with collaborative instincts and willingness to develop relationships with partners

Hourly rate: $35, fully remote contract position (10-15 hours per week), start date: March 1, shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a paid, in-depth skills assessment as part of the interview process.
